Before you pick: the 3 rules of good tracked habits
- Tiny. Each habit should take under two minutes at first (the 2-minute rule). You can always do more.
- Binary. “Did I or didn't I?” should have an obvious answer. “Eat better” is untrackable; “eat one piece of fruit” is a checkbox.
- Daily (at first). Daily habits build automaticity 7× faster than weekly ones. Start daily and tiny rather than weekly and big.

How to pick your first five
Don't track twenty habits — that's a to-do list with extra guilt. Pick one identity per life area you care about (max 3 areas), then choose one tiny habit per identity. A good starter set: drink a glass of water, read 1 page, meditate for 1 minute, do 1 pushup, plan tomorrow. Five habits, under ten minutes total, covering health, learning, mindfulness, fitness and productivity — the same starter set Atomic Strides suggests.
📱 How to set these up in Atomic Strides
- Tap + and create each habit — pick an emoji, then assign its self-care area (Health, Nutrition, Mindfulness, Learning, Productivity, Sleep).
- Set a schedule and reminder — daily for most, or weekly for habits like calling family.
- Anchor each to your day using habit stacking — the app reminds you at the moment your anchor happens.
- Review Insights weekly to see which areas are thriving and which need smaller habits. Your best streaks and perfect days show you what's working.
